Leeds residents were left puzzled as the sky above the city turned orange.

The sun became an unusual orange/red colour after Storm Ophelia carried Saharan sand and brown dust from Southern Europe and Africa. According to the Met Office, the air was safe as the particles were high up in the atmosphere.

“What a strange but beautiful sky today in Yorkshire,” said one observer, Stacey Moore, on Twitter.
