Teens given tips for work by Irwin Mitchell and Leeds Rhinos Foundation

Teenagers swapped a day of their half-term break for a training event which helped prepare them for working life.

Youngsters took part in workshops on the pros and cons of social media, drafting a CV, interview skills and money management, as part of the industry event, led by law firm Irwin Mitchell and the Leeds Rhinos Foundation.

The day finished with a special treat for the group as they held and took photos with all three of the trophies won by Leeds Rhinos during their 2014/15 season.

Peter Morris, partner and family law expert at Irwin Mitchell, said: “It was a pleasure to run these workshops and pass on a few vital tips to teenagers who seem so enthused and intrigued by their journey ahead into the world of work.

“I am proud to be a trustee of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and together through our five year partnership we have been able to provide invaluable experiences to youngsters who simply wouldn’t normally have these opportunities.”

The Leeds Rhinos Foundation, the rugby league side’s partner charity, supports and delivers community projects in sport, health and education.

Sam Horner, the foundation’s community clubs development officer, said: “We are indebted to Irwin Mitchell for providing a very valuable Industry Day for the young people involved in the initiative.

“The day of workshops gave them a very useful insight into the working world with some life skills that will hopefully stand them in good stead for the future.

“On behalf of the Leeds Rhinos Foundation and the community club players who attended I’d like to thank Irwin Mitchell for their hospitality and for providing another rewarding day.”

Business development manager Rob Cowling, from Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office, helped to run the industry event. He said: “It’s fantastic that we can offer our support and run events like this at a time when these people need to start planning for what can feel like a daunting future in full time employment.

“The three trophies provided the teenagers with an exciting end to the day and it was great to be able to illustrate after the workshop, exactly what can be achieved, with hard work and determination.”
