Teenage good Samaritan hit in face by man who appeared lost

A teenage girl was punched in the face by a man who appeared to be lost.

The 17-year-old girl walking along a cycle path just off Woodfield Road in Harrogate when she approached the man to ask if he needed help.

Police said the man, who appeared agitated, started to walk away but then punched her in the face before running off. The happened at around 1.30pm on Friday.

PC Adam Fenwick said: “This was an alarming, unprovoked assault on a lone girl who offered to help someone and in return for her concern, was punched in the face. The victim suffered bruising to her eye and was very shaken up.”
