Technical fault halts trains across West Yorkshire

Have your say

COMMUTERS faced a nightmare journey to work today after technical faults decimated train services in West Yorkshire

Rail firms blamed “overhead wire problems” at Shipley for the delays and cancellations, which also affected trans to and from Bradford, Leeds, Skipton and Ilkley.

Only one train ran to time on the busy Ilkley to Leeds route. Others were cancelled or delayed by more than half an hour.

Early morning trains to London were also affected.

Network rail said the delays would last “until further notice”.

Passengers took to Twitter to vent their frustration at train operator Northern Rail.

Tom Conneely tweeted: “@Northernrailorg, how about an announcement on the trains to update people who are just sat waiting?”

Traveller Deborah Howe wrote: “How frustrating that the app is telling me trains are making it through to Leeds when in reality... they aren’t.”

Jordan Thompson added: “@northernrailorg - Rude and clueless staff. Your app is wrong! Waste of money!”

The problems come just days before thousands are expected to pile on to weekend trains to see the Tour de France in Yorkshire.
