A group of 34 charity cyclists, who are collectively riding 5,000miles, have raised around £10,000 for a trio of good causes.

The fundraiser will see 22 members of Garforth Velo Club ride the 170mile Way of the Roses coast-to-coast route on July 11, while another 12 cover a shorter 105mile route.

The team is supporting The Teenage Cancer Trust, Breakthrough Cancer and St Gemma’s Hospice after a club member’s wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. Household retailer Buy As You View has backed the fundraiser by donating a 42in TV as a raffle prize and giving £680 of kit to the team of riders.

Rider Ryan Tallent, 38, from Garforth, works for Buy As You View. He said: “We just wanted to do something to help.”
