Taxi driver remanded over alleged Leeds rape UPDATED

A taxi driver accused of raping a woman in the back of his cab after picking her up in Leeds has been remanded in custody.

Mohammed Shahin, 28, faces two charges in relation to the alleged attack on a 20-year-old in the early hours of Sunday, September 30.

The woman claimed she got into a private hire vehicle on Duncan Street in Leeds city centre before asking the driver to take her to her Baildon home.

It is alleged she was raped before being dropped off.

Shahin, of Fitzroy Road, Bradford, spoke only to confirm his name when he appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court this afternoon.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Leeds Crown Court on October 19.
