A TAXI driver was assaulted during a robbery in Liversedge, West Yorkshire.

Kirklees CID would like to speak to anyone who has information about the incident which took place between 5.17 and 5.30pm on Quarry Road on Monday July 27.

The 32-year-old man driver picked up a man in Dewsbury to take him to Liversedge.

On arriving, the suspect refused to pay his fare and then assaulted the driver, who was attempting to contact the police.

The suspect then made off with the victim’s iPhone 6 and escaped up a ginnel between Quarry Road and Upper Barker Street.

He was described as white, aged 25-30, stocky and around 6ft tall. He had very short shaved hair and was clean shaven.

DC Richard Brooke of Kirklees CID, said: “We are appealing for witnesses to the incident and I would like to speak to anyone who saw the assault in the taxi or who saw a man fitting the suspect’s description in the area at the time of the offence.

“The assault took place during a time of day when there would have been people around so the suspect may well have been seen.”

Anyone who has information is asked to contact DC 283 Richard Brooke at the Kirklees Robbery Team on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
