Tasty new era on the menu for Leeds United fan pub

And now the Old Peacock is set to kick off a new era that it hopes will be a recipe for its continued success as one of Leeds’s best-known pubs.

The Peacock’s owner, Ossett Brewery, has announced a mouthwatering link-up with the acclaimed Spiced Mango restaurant, in Middlestown, near Wakefield.

It means that, from this Friday, the pub’s existing restaurant area will be serving exclusively Indian food.

A takeaway collection service will also be available while, on matchdays, fans will be able to buy snack-sized Indian treats such as chicken tikka wraps and biryani rice boxes.

Refurbishment work is currently being carried out to provide the restaurant area – which sits to the back of the building – with a decor that incorporates both a stylish Indian theme and tributes to some of United’s greatest players.

The pub area to the front will be unaffected by the changes, as will the Peacock’s popular marquee and beer garden.

Ossett Brewery boss Jamie Lawson said: “The Old Peacock is one of our most successful pubs, and obviously it has a unique location and special identity.

“However, we are always looking at ways to maximise revenues on non-matchdays and how to make all our pubs that little bit different and a bit special.

“The Spiced Mango is an amazing restaurant and we have worked very hard to make this partnership happen, so we can’t wait to see it become a great success.”

The revamped Peacock food service will be a seven-day-a-week operation, although the restaurant space will – in the same way it has in the past – be given over to fans for drinking before kick-off on matchdays.

Ossett Brewery’s partnership with the Spiced Mango follows the success of a similar link-up between its Granary Wharf-based Candlebar venue and Edo Sushi.

The Peacock stands on Elland Road itself, a stone’s throw from the football ground’s South Stand.

It first opened in 1963, replacing a pub of the same name that dated back to the 19th century.

Ossett Brewery took over in 2013 and spent £400,000 transforming it into a “prestige food and alehouse”.
