Swedish band Opeth are celebrating their 25th anniversary with the launch of their first ever beer with Leeds-based brewery, Northern Monk Brew Co.
Just 1,700 bottles of the ‘XXV Anniversary Imperial Stout’ have been created of the beer, which is is descended from the strongest Stout Porter brewed in Britain in the 18th Century. Members of the band visited the brewery recently and the collaboration began. Russell Bisset, founder of Northern Monk Brew Co said: “We’re big metal fans at Northern Monk and Opeth is often the soundtrack to our brewing.”
Opeth frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt said: “Northern Monk are great. They have great ideas and make great beer. They even invited Fredrik and Axe down to the brewery.”
The beer available now priced at £12 with a pale ale to follow in 2016.
