PLANS are under way to create the biggest ever casino in West Yorkshire.
London-based company Global Gaming Ventures Limited are in the process of obtaining the licence for the premises at the new £150m Victoria Gate development in Leeds, which is expected to open next year.
Victoria Gate won the battle to be the home of the ‘super-casino’ after city council bosses chose the development over the application made for Leeds United’s Elland Road ground back in 2013.
The 50,000 sq ft casino, which will sit above the shops, may seem like a strange choice of location considering the likes of John Lewis have already signed up to the development.
But the gaming company obviously know what they’re doing.
As previously reported, more than 200 jobs will be created by the scheme and 90 per cent of staff will come from Leeds.
The gaming company also had to make an upfront payment of £1m to the council, which will be spent on various charity initiatives.
It also has to hand over £450,000 per annum to the council, with money potentially going to ‘anti-poverty- projects and support networks for gambling addicts.
