Study reveals that a mum's work is never done

Brits may be grown up and living away from home, but they still lean on their mother for help in the home, according to new research.A survey of 1,000 UK adults carried out by flooring experts DiscountFlooringDepot.co.uk has revealed that 38 per cent of adults still call upon their mum for help and advice with jobs around the home.Laundry was the number one task grown up kids turn to their mums for help with, with 41 per cent of those who get their maternal figure to help them out admitting to either dropping it off for her to do, or simply getting her to do it in their home. This was followed by 36 per cent who admitted that they get assistance or advice from their mum whilst cooking.A further 27 per cent said they get their mum to iron their clothes, while 25 per cent get help with removing stains from their clothes. The data also explored the reasons behind why so many adults are still relying upon their mum for these kinds of tasks, revealing that 24 per cent believe their mum actually enjoys helping them with the odd task in the home.Meanwhile, a housework shy one in five (21 per cent) revealed they do this because someone else has always done these household jobs for them.Paula Gray, designer at DiscountFlooringDepot.co.uk said: “Large numbers of us are still calling upon our mums to help and give advice on housework, such as doing the laundry, ironing and getting rid of pesky stains.“If mums are willing to do this and actually enjoy the task – as many do – then this isn’t a problem, however adults should probably still make attempts to get to grips with some of these chores themselves.Gray continued: “Clearly, British mums work incredibly hard to help their offspring, no matter how old they may be – and there is definitely still truth in the saying ‘a mum’s work is never done’.”A further one in seven (14 per cent) admitted that they don’t actually know how to do some of these tasks in the home. Finally, it was also found that those aged from 25 to 34 years old were the most likely to rely upon their mum for help and advice with housework.Founded in August 2012, the team behind Discount Flooring Depot has over 30 years experience in the flooring industry, which allows the brand to source high quality wood flooring in bulk from a global network of trusted suppliers. The website and show room in Manchester, sell a range of laminate, engineered and solid wood flooring, as well as underlay, high quality accessories.
