'Strong police presence' after bus diversions in Leeds as England lose to Croatia in World Cup semi-final

A traffic alert has been issued as several buses have been diverted in Leeds tonight.

Several bus services have been diverted off Headingley Lane due to large crowds in the city centre.

Headingley Services 1/6/28/97/X84 were diverting via Albion Street, Merrion Street, New Briggate, North Street, Meanwood Road, Grove Lane, Shaw Lane, Headingley Lane (Stop after Arndale Centre) in both directions,. according to First Bus.

But as of 10.30pm, the diversion has been lifted due to a strong police presence making the crowds manageable, but some motorists may still face some slight delays.

First Bus said: "Lane is busy with crowds and traffic but there is a strong Police presence and we're receiving reports that is manageable so services 1,6,28,97,X84 are now able to operate normal route."
