Fresh details have been released today about a crash in Stonegate Road, Leeds on Saturday in which five people were killed including three children.

When did the crash happen and where?

The crash happpened on Stonegate Road, Meanwood, Leeds, when the car hit a tree at about 9.54pm on Saturday evening (November 25).

A stolen Renault Clio was involved in the incident, and it is believed that the car was stolen in the Headingley area at about 6.30pm on Saturday.

Police also confirmed the stolen Clio was black in colour with the registration FL06 MWU.

Who was in the '06 plate Renault Clio when it crashed on Stonegate Road and who was killed?

Five people in total were killed in the crash, including three children - Ellis and Elliot Thornton, aged 12 and 15, and Darnell Harte, also aged 15.

Two other men, Anthoney Armour, 24, and Robbie Meerun, also 24, were also both killed.

A sixth person, a 15-year-old boy, was inside the car as well. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and he remains under arrest today.

A seventh person, also a 15-year-old boy, was arrested near to the scene of the incident, according to West Yorkshire Police. He was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was released under investigation on Sunday night.

What did police say about the crash today?

DCI Griffiths said: “We are continuing to carry out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the collision itself and the circumstances surrounding it.

“At this stage we believe that all those who died were travelling in the Clio at the time of the collision and that it was the only vehicle involved.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who has seen the Clio and the manner of its driving in the time leading up to the collision.

“That vehicle was stolen in the Headingley area at about 6.30pm that day and is believed to have been driven around the Leeds area during that time.

“We would be interested in anyone who has dashcam footage relating to the vehicle’s movements.”

What have the family said about the crash?

Family of two boys killed in a car crash on Stonegate Road in Leeds released the first image of the boys alongside an emotional statement.

Louise Thornton, 34, known as the boys' Godmother/Aunty Lou, said there were no words to described the loss of the two "cheeky chappies", Ellis, 12, and Elliott, 15, who were so loving towards their family.

She said: "Elliott was the eldest. He was very loving and very trusting. He was so proud of his family, his mum and dad and his two sisters, Ebony, 16, and Bronte, five. "

We are just devastated. We can't believe they have both gone as that just doesn't happen."

Ebony Thornton, 16, posted an emotional tribute on Facebook after finding out her brothers Ellis and Elliot Thornton, aged 12 and 15, had died in the crash.

She wrote: ‘You were my boys, my world and more.

‘I wish I told you I love you everyday, I wish I didn’t shout, argue and fight with you, I wish you could just be with me right this second, I am so lost for words.'
