A stitch in time at Leeds Temple Newsam to mark milestone

Members have spent the last eight months as artists in residence at Leeds’ Temple Newsam, stitching beautiful works of art to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, as well as three centuries of the estate’s landscapes.

The group visited the stately home every Thursday to sew in the public areas.

They also answered questions, sharing their work with visitors and getting to know each other.

Now, their “amazing” creations, including the design pictured, will go on display within the house.

Bobbie Robertson, keeper  at Temple Newsam, said: “Our intention was to engage with the members and for them to take inspiration to make new work from the house and the landscape it sits in so they  create something new that was still rooted in the estate’s  history.

“The creations are wonderfully imaginative and beautiful and we decided that we would put together a small display within the house to give people a chance to see these amazing creations.”
