Police found the Iranian man in the outside lane of the M1 on Monday, April 1.

They said he had arrived by a lorry and was "very thirsty, hungry and could hardly stand."

Officer Martin Willis, known online at 'Motorway Martin', shared the tragic incident on Twitter.

PC Willis said: "Just picked up a young Iranian from the outside lane of the M1.

"He had arrived by lorry, was very thirsty, hungry and could hardly stand.

"It is tragic that in the midst of this global crisis, there are many people that still have no other option than to risk their lives like this."
