Spreading the festive cheer at Leeds Minster for YEP carol service

And dozens of people packed into Leeds Minster last night for the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Christmas Carol Service.

The service, conducted by Canon Sam Corley, celebrates the Christmas story and featured performances by the church choir and YEP Brass Band.

“Through Christmas spirit and festive cheer, it is a brilliant way to raise money for hospices and children in Leeds, which offer vital support at this time of year to families .”

The service this year also featured readings from Mrs Thaxter and Laura Collins, the YEP’s Head of Content. The congregation at last night’s service were invited to bring a small, new gift or toy to place under the tree.

These gifts will now be distributed to poorly and under-privileged children across Leeds.

Tickets to the event were free, although kind-hearted attendees were asked to make a minimum £3.50 at the church door.

Proceeds from the service will be shared equally between Leeds Minster and the YEP’s Half and Half appeal, which raises funds for the city’s St Gemma’s Hospice and Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice.
