Defining images of footballing icon Pele which have been signed by the man himself have gone on sale in Leeds today.
Fine art publisher Washington Green has released its latest edition of eight photographic prints from its ‘Art Life Football’ series honouring the Brazilian’s extraordinary life and career.
An edition of 295 signed prints of depictions of moments such as his 18th minute goal in Brazil’s 1970 World Cup final win and the famed ‘Heart of a King’ image are now available to buy at Castle Fine Art in Albion Place, Leeds.
Pele, who celebrated his 75th birthday last year, is widely considered the greatest footballer of all time having scored 1,283 goals in 1,366 matches.
The release comes before the Brazilian is due to visit Elland Road’s Centenary Pavilion to be interviewed by ITV’s Gabriel Clarke on September 18.
Roy Pritchard, gallery manager of Leeds’ Castle Fine Art, said: “The unique range of photography we have chosen to release outlines key moments in Pele’s decorated career. The selection of pictures – some taken nearly 50 years ago – capture the energy of the nation’s favourite sport in action and the grace of the international sporting icon that is Pele.
“The highest quality products and printing techniques have been used to create these very special pieces of artwork which are all hand-signed by Pele himself.”
Last year Washington Green launched a collection of Pele-inspired artwork from a variety of contemporary artists in honour of the icon’s 75th birthday.
Pele, who played a central role in helping Brazil to secure the Rio 2016 Olympics due to kick off in August, is the only footballer to have won three World Cups.
A feature film called ‘Pele: Birth of a Legend’ is also due to be released in honour of Brazil’s all-time top goalscorer this year. For more on the artwork visit castlegalleries.com.
Scheduled to revisit Leeds
Pele is due meet football fans across the country as he embarks on a tour of the UK later this year.
The star, who last visited Leeds during a 2006 book tour, will be interviewed by ITV’s Gabriel Clarke and answer questions from members of the public during an evening dinner at Elland Road’s Centenary Pavillion on September 18.
Tickets for the evening range from £100 to £595 with premium packages including a videoed meet and greet. Visit seetickets.com for tickets.
