More than 120 people were waiting outside the store at Tunstall Road Retail Park when it opened its doors for the first time on Thursday.

Shop bosses made sure the event was extra special by running a golden ticket contest offering prizes to the first 100 customers in the queue.

The store also announced that it will be putting on a series of Specialbuy promotions every Thursday and Sunday.

And, to show its commitment to the local community, Aldi has made a £500 donation to the Hunslet Club.

It will also be giving food products to the Salvation Army’s Holbeck branch.

Store manager Heidi Spedding said: “It’s been great to see so many customers welcoming Aldi to Holbeck and we would like to thank them for coming along to the golden ticket event.

“We enjoyed seeing so many people walk away with prizes and hope that everyone took advantage of the fresh products and Specialbuys on offer.

“We look forward to supporting the local Salvation Army branch in the coming weeks.”

The opening has created 16 jobs. For more information on Aldi work opportunities, visit www.aldirecruitment.co.uk.
