New proposals could see the station staffed for part of the day, while drop-off facilities, roads and CCTV systems are improved.

It comes as the station awaits the construction of a major new car park on Valley Road.

Coun Neil Dawson (Lab, Morley South) said: “This will be the step change needed to improve the station.”

Morley is one of several stations in West Yorkshire set to benefit from major development plans for local rail stations.

There are opportunities to have funding for station improvements in the new Northern and Transpennine franchises.
