Two Rothwell neighbours have beaten nearly 1,000 other people to win a gardening competition.

Stuart Howcroft and Jennifer Hammill live just doors away from each other on Pasture View Road, have won three titles in the York Housing Association’s Gardener of the Year contest.Mr Howcroft was named Gardener of the Year and won the Most Creative Garden award, while Mrs Hammill, who has recently undergone cancer treatment, was handed the Best Container prize for the third time in six years.

Mr Howcroft picked out his hanging baskets as the highlight of his plot, while Mrs Hammill, who has a first floor flat, uses her balcony and steps for displays.
