Groups using two under-threat community centres in south Leeds will meet in a bid to secure their future on Friday.

Gildersome Youth Centre and Lewisham Park Youth Centre, which are both in the Morley area, are among the 10 community centres under review as Leeds City Council looks to save £250,000.

Councillors claim that the facilities are well used by local dance groups, cubs, scouts and disabled groups, so they hope to work with residents to ensure the centres have a long future.

A meeting of service users will take place at Morley Town Hall on Friday.

Coun Bob Gettings (Morley Borough Independents, Morley North) said: “We will be exploring all options open to us with the absolute aim of keeping all groups accommodated within the village. This could include expanding the meeting hall in Gildersome which could provide for improved facilities in the village.”

The meeting will also explore asset transfer. Visit morleyindependent.blogspot.com.
