A south Leeds church is celebrating after receiving a £15,000 boost for urgent structural repairs.
St Mary’s Church, in Middleton, has been given a grant from the Yorkshire Historic Churches Trust to fund repair work.
Built in 1846, the imposing grade II listed church was designed by Robert Chantrell, architect of Leeds Minster, and stands in a prominent position near Middleton Park.
Rev Andy Myers has been tireless in his campaign to save the church and keep it open for the local community.
He said: “This church has so much to offer. We are in the heart of the community and, in challenging times, it is essential that we remain open for worship.”
