Sombre air hangs over the scene of a fatal crash which left five dead in Leeds

The amount of floral tributes add up as friends come to pay respects to the five killed in the crash.

Police and crash investigators have been working behind a taped cordon on the Leeds street that was the scene of the horrific crash which left five people, including two brothers aged 12 and 15, dead.

As residents and locals walked and drove by, going about their daily business on a Monday morning, the enormity of the devastation resulting from Saturday night's incident was tangible.

Police officers in a group of four paced a distance of around 50 yards to and from the tree where the stolen Renault Clio came to rest after hitting it. They scoured the pavement and grass verges for clues and debris while colleagues searched the gardens of the pairs of semi-detached houses which are just yards from the area which police described was "complete carnage" when they first arrived on the scene.

On the other side of the road floral tributes lined the edge of the pavement as a steady stream of locals, friends and family members of the deceased - visibly shocked and shaken by the tragedy - came to the scene to pay their respects.

Among them was a grieving mum whose son is believed to have been one of five people killed. She was allowed through the police cordon today and placed her hand on the tree before being comforted by a younger man who was with her.

Candles had been left at the scene from a vigil last night and a single blue balloon in the shape of a star fluttered in the winter November wind.

Messages read: "RIP Elliott & Ellis. Two beautiful boys taken too soon. We will never forget you both and love you both forever + always. Sleep tight boys. Annmarie, Wayne, Leighton, Nytah, Nevaeh." Another said: "My boys who are now flying together, your wings are special in every way. Forever in my heart. Elliott & Ellis."

A police cordon remains in place at the scene on Stonegate Road today.

Ellis and Elliott Kimmitt, aged 12 and 15 were the two brothers killed. A third victim has been named as Darnell Harte, aged 15 and two men, named locally as Anthoney Armour, 28, and Robbie Meerun, 24, were also killed in the incident.
