For the men and women in military dress were not true members of the armed forces, but extras from the new Dad’s Army film.

The Leeds actors, who play members of the movie’s Home Guard Unit, performed drills outside the Showcase Cinema on Gelderd Road.

They appeared in full costume as they paraded to fans outside, before marching into the cinema with popcorn in hand.

Mark Barlow, general manager of UK Theatres at Showcase Cinemas said: “In advance of the release of Dad’s Army, we were delighted to invite the WR28 Home Guard unit to the Showcase Cinema de Lux in Birstall.

“Appearing in their full uniform, they put on a great display for guests by performing various drills both inside and outside the cinema. It was fantastic to have them here to bring Dad’s Army to life.”
