A Leeds grandmother has completed a charity skydive at the age of 74.

Retired scientist Meryl Knapp leapt 10,000 feet from a plane in aid of the charity WaterAid.

The stunt was planned to mark her decision to leave the organisation a gift in her will, and to raise awareness of the importance of bequests.

Meryl is already a WaterAid volunteer campaigner, and began working with them during her career as a water quality scientist at Yorkshire Water.

She gives regular presentations to groups about providing clean drinking water in the developing world.

“I decided based on the needs of my family and friends first. Leaving a gift to WaterAid was a way for me to continue doing good after I’m gone,” said Meryl.
