Have your say

St Valentine’s Day (February 14) is less than a week away, so you’ve no excuse in forgetting to do something, or leaving it until the last minute. Here are six ideas which will put you in the good books with your other half

HEART FRYING PAN, TESCO, £3.50

Now, buying your other half a frying pan which costs £3.50 might not sound like the best of plans for what is meant to be one of the most romantic days of the year but it could form part of a wider package - at least that’s the thinking from those market-savvy folk at Tesco.

They’re also suggesting finest Bisol Prosecco (£8), or for those who want to go the whole hog, finest Rosé Non-Vintage Champagne (£20), a heart shaped money box (£5), heart shaped toast rack for £3 and boxed rose petals for £1.50, which you could sprinkle over the dining table before serving your heart-shaped omelette.

SPA FOR TWO, HAZELWOOD CASTLE

From just £79 for two people, you can’t go far wrong with this offer from the people at Hazlewood Castle, North Yorkshire.

Their ‘Be My Valentine - Together We Spa’ offer includes Champagne and chocolates to share, up to two hours use of the relaxation lounge, any 30 minute massage of your choice each, robe towel and slippers and historic tour of the castle.

It’s also the perfect setting to make this special day as special as the person you’re sharing it with.

Plus you will get an ‘A’ for effort. Call 01937 832652 for more information.

ASK ITALIAN RESTAURANT, FEB 12-14

Ah, what could be nicer than a romantic meal for two? On a practical level, it gets you out of the house, there’s no washing up and it doesn’t involve the mental anguish of trying to come up with something ‘nouvelle’ off your own bat.

ASK Italian (Wetherby, Castleford, York) have the right idea. They said: “From our heart-melting chocolate lava mountain cake to deliciously cheeky cocktails, we’ve pulled out all the stops with our Valentine’s menus. If there’s two things Italians know about it’s romance and food.”

Just remember to pay the bill yourself.

ROSES ARE RED... ALDI, 100 ROSES FOR £25

This Valentine’s Day, savvy romantics will be heading to Aldi to woo their beloved without putting a thorn in the side of their bank balance. An incredible 4.2m stems of roses will be bought from Aldi’s award-winning flower collection in the run up to the most love-filled day of the year; half a million of which will be Specially Selected Sweetheart Roses, with 100 stems for just £25 – a price to melt anyone’s heart.

During the week leading up to the most romantic day of the year, approximately £4,000 will be raised for fair trade farm workers in Ethiopia - extra Brownie points.

SPEED DATING, BROOKLYN BAR, FEB 11

If you’ve yet to find ‘the one’, then fear not - there’s a speed dating event on at Brooklyn Bar, Call Lane, Leeds for people in their 20s and 30s.

They said: “It’s an opportunity to meet and date 15-20 people your age, who are serious about wanting to be in a relationship. You will date each person for four minutes, giving you the opportunity to decide if you may want to see the person again.”

It could be the start of something special. Entry is £15, for more information call 0113 2443932 or web search them.
