Talks have started between Leeds City Council and West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) over plans to create spaces for up to 120 cars on land on nearby Valley Road.

The plans come as the number of people using the station has increased by 600 per cent over the last eight years.

Coun Neil Dawson (Lab, Morley South) said: “The future is looking much brighter for Morley station and with the right improvements it will be a huge benefit for commuters to Leeds and elsewhere in West Yorkshire.”

The WYCA is investigating the cost of improving the road surface and installing traffic lights at the site, which formerly housed an oil recycling distribution centre.

Coun Dawson added: “This car park would be a massive improvement.

“More and more Morley people want to use public transport and Morley station could be a huge bonus for the town, but we need to provide more space for people to leave their cars.”
