The store will be United’s first permanent retail presence in the city centre since their Albion Street shop closed in 2007.

Leeds executive director Paul Bell said: “We’ve experienced strong retail sales so far this season with both home and away replica shirts performing really well.

“It’s incredibly important for us to be coming back to the city centre as it will allow many Leeds United fans the opportunity to purchase official Leeds United merchandise conveniently without the need to make a specific trip to the Elland Road superstore.

“The Merrion Centre and the arena quarter are undergoing a huge redevelopment programme and we believe the centre provides a strong retail proposition for the club away from Elland Road.”

Edward Ziff, chairman and chief executive of Merrion owner Town Centre Securities, said: “We work hard to bring Merrion Centre visitors the very best shops, bars and restaurants and to have the only official store in the centre of the city dedicated to Leeds United is a great achievement and testament to the big role the shopping centre plays.

“We are extremely proud to be adding the biggest club in Yorkshire, Leeds United, to our list of tenants.

“We want to welcome the club to the Merrion Centre in the best way possible and hope lots of fans will visit the store and join us for the official opening next week.”
