History of Here’ aims to celebrate the city’s retail history as shoppers gear up for the launch of the £165m Victoria Gate development later this year.

James Hepburn, development manager at Hammerson, which owns the site, said: “Whether stories are from five or 50 years ago, we would love for as many local people as possible to be involved with the History of Here project.

“It can be a funny, sentimental, factual or simply a fond memory – anything goes!”

Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council, said: “Looking back at how far we have come is a great way to celebrate our rich retail history and help us look forward to the many exciting developments like Victoria Gate and John Lewis as well as the refurbishment of the historic Leeds Kirkgate Market.”

The History of Here project will culminate in a public exhibition in summer.
