Shining a light on heroes at National Coal Mining Museum

A new exhibition at the National Coal Mining Museum will honour the heroes and heroines of the pits.

The heroes showcase in Wakefield, will launch at 11am on Sunday, July 31. It will feature gallant men and women who have been nominated by the public. Visitors can explore the newly adapted special exhibition space and enjoy interactive displays.

The official opening will feature the chance to meet real coal mining heroes: Bevin boy John Etty, pit nurse Joan Hart, mines rescuer Tony Banks and more. Guest exhibitors from local emergency services and community groups will also be on-hand.

The museum is located on New Road, Overton in Wakefield.
