Marie Curie has appealed for more people to help launch a new fundraising group.

The group will raise cash for Marie Curie’s nursing service in Leeds, which helps patients with a terminal illness spend their last moments in their own home.

Faye Cryer, community fundraiser at the Marie Curie charity, said: “We are seeking supporters from the south Leeds are to become involved in a new and exciting fundraising group to raise money to support the Marie Curie nursing service.”

The charity is organising a meeting, for people to find out more about volunteering, at the Gildersome Arms pub next week.

The meeting takes place at 6.30pm on Thursday, at the pub in Gelderd Road, from 6.30pm.

Ms Cryer said that volunteering is also a chance for fundraisers to meet new people and make friends, while raising vital funds.

She added: “We will welcome anyone who’d like to be involved.

“Being a member doesn’t take up loads of time, and you can meet new people, make new friends, and all importantly be helping us to help others.”

Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with terminal illnesses, and their families.

Last year, the charity cared for more than 40,000 people across the UK but it relies on donations to run its nursing and support services.
