Police are trying to trace a driver who ran off from the scene of a road smash in Leeds.

The crash happened at the junction of Lower Wortley Road and Fawcett Lane in Wortley at about 7.30am yesterday. (July 20)

It involved a BMW which had reportedly smashed into four parked cars and a van.

One resident on Fawcett Lane, 47-year-old Deborah Priestley, told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “It sounded like a bomb had gone off.”

She said that as she looked out of her window she saw a man running from the scene, adding: “People were shouting ‘grab him’ but he got away.”

Mrs Priestley went on: “It’s a dangerous bit of road as it is, and people do go too fast there. This was ridiculous though.”

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said inquiries were ongoing to try to locate the driver of the BMW.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to ring the force via its 101 phone number.
