Scouts and Guides from Leeds and Wakefield are heading to the Land of the Rising Sun for a trip of a lifetime.

Thirty-six youngsters from Central Yorkshire Scouts and Girlguiding North East England will set off for Japan on Saturday to join the 23rd World Scout Jamboree.

The Scouts and Guides have spent over 18 months planning, raising funds and training to take part in the event which attracts 33,000 participants.

Scout leader Joyce Wright, from Scholes Explorer Unit, said “Preparing for this World Scout Jamboree has been a true journey. There has been a lot of planning and hard work. We have had several training camps where the young people from all over the county have joined together to become a comprehensive team.”
