Children’s letters to Father Christmas have revealed the most wanted presents this year are Lego sets, bikes and video games consoles.

Royal Mail said its survey of wishes from boys and girls - rather than surveys from toy companies - reveals that scooters and mobile phones are also among the most popular items on wish-lists.

Lego retains the top spot from last year, while bikes move from third to second, the analysis of thousands of letters found.

Alex McConnell of Royal Mail said: “Royal Mail plays a special part at Christmas.

“We are proud that for over 50 years Santa has allowed us to help manage the thousands of special letters he receives from boys and girls across the UK.”

Royal Mail said the top 10 most requested toys of 2017 are:

1. Lego

2. Bike

3. Video Games Console

4. Hatchimals

5. Scooter

6. Mobile Phone

7. Paw Patrol Sea Patroller
