MOTORISTS suffered traffic tailbacks during rush hour following an accident near Wakefield.

Drivers had to wait in queues for up to 40 minutes as two lanes of the M1 southbound were closed by police near Carr Gate at around 5pm yesterday, following a collision between junctions 41 and 40.

The road was fully re-opened just after 6pm. Witnesses to the collision are asked to call West Yorkshire Police on 101.
