Rush hour protest in Leeds city centre could cause traffic chaos this morning

A protest that could bring traffic in Leeds city centre to a standstill is planned to go ahead this morning (Wednesday).

There will be a series of disruptive road closures in place during the demonstration between 9am and 10am.

It is believed that the march has been organised by someone involved in a court case taking place at Leeds Combined Court Centre.

Motorists, commuters and last-minute shoppers travelling in the city centre have been advised to take alternative routes by Leeds City Council, and should prepare for delays during rush hour this morning.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "We are aware of a planned protest and there are appropriate police numbers in place to facilitate this."

Protesters will march from the court in Oxford Row on a circuit towards Briggate and around the city centre before returning via The Headrow.

The spokesman said a similar protest - involving around 30 people - took place in Middlesbrough earlier this year.
