Rush hour nightmare as ‘incident’ closes M62

DRIVERS faced long delays this evening after the M62 motorway was closed westbound in what was described as a “serious police incident”.

Traffic was queuing westbound between J26, M606 (Chain Bar) and J25, A644 (Brighouse).

A diversion is in operation but delays were reported as far back as Leeds.

Police said traffic should follow the ‘hollow diamond’ symbol via the A58 towards Halifax, the A641 to Brighouse and the A643 before using the A644 towards Dewsbury to rejoin the M62 at J25. Congestion to J28, A650 (Tingley), on M606 to J3, A6036 (Staygate Roundabout) and on M621 to J2, A643 (Elland Road).
