A ROYAL Navy sailor from Leeds has sent her family a Christmas message from on board a frigate which is on operations in the heat of the Gulf until May.

Able Rating Natalie McGrogan, 26, is serving on HMS Kent – one of eight Royal Navy Ships deployed to the Gulf region this Christmas.

Able rating McGrogan said in a message to her mum Clare and grandmother Sheila: “Hi mum and Grandma I hope that you are not missing me too much! I just wanted to wish you both and Elwood and Simon (the Dogs) a very Happy Christmas. Don’t worry about all the mountains of presents you have for me I’ll get them when I am back in the New Year! Love you both loads.”

In true naval tradition, she will join her fellow sailors in being served Christmas dinner by the officers.

Able Rating McGrogan joined the Royal Navy in April 2006 and is now an electronic warfare, early warning radar operator.
