Big hits and bruises will help Wakefield’s roller derby team celebrate its fifth birthday.

Wakey Wheeled Cats, will take on Barnsley Black Heart Rollers at Dewsbury Sports Centre on Saturday April 20.

The game is a long-anticipated return to the track for the Cats, who are back after a retreat from open competition while they focused on building up the team.

Cats co-founder and captain Kirsty Quinn, said: “When we first started up five years ago, we were in a tiny sports hall with six skaters. We see a positive future for roller derby in Wakefield and are excited to see what the next five years bring, all starting with the game against Barnsley.

“The two teams are evenly matched, so it is sure be a real nail biter.”
