THE Leeds Christmas lights switch-on party looks sure to hit the high notes once again this year.

Acts announced today for next month’s bash include a 40-strong ensemble from the Leeds Rock Choir, who will perform a selection of hit songs as well as a festive medley.

Other guests on the bill include Cbeebies presenters Alex Winters and Cat Sandion, who will entertain revellers with a fun version of The 12 Days of Christmas.

And there will also be an appearance from 911 boy band singer Lee Brennan, who is set to star in a production of Aladdin at Leeds’s Carriageworks arts complex.

Further headline acts are due to be announced shortly for the free Leeds City Council-organised event, which will take place in Victoria Gardens from 6.45pm on Thursday, November 12.

Entertainment on the night will also include funfair rides along Cookridge Street and a spectacular fireworks display.

Council leader Coun Judith Blake said: “The Christmas lights switch-on is always a great occasion when the countdown to Christmas really begins.

“It’s always amazing to see so many people come together in the city centre to enjoy themselves and get into the festive spirit.”

Next month’s event marks the official start of the city’s Magical Leeds programme, which will feature attractions such as the annual German market in Millennium Square.
