Robbers escaped with a large quantity of cigarettes after a raid at a Tesco store in Alwoodley.

The three males carried out the robbery at 10.40pm on Tuesday at Tesco Express in Alwoodley, West Yorkshire Police say.

One threatened the two members of staff while the other two jumped over the counter and removed a large amount of cigarettes loading them into a large builder’s type sack.

All three then ran from the store and drove off in the Peugeot, which was later found abandoned in nearby Buckstone Crescent.

Detective Constable Lee Thimm, of Leeds District CID, said: “This was clearly a really frightening experience for the members of staff that were involved. The males all had their faces covered and were wearing gloves but the CCTV images show the type of clothing they were wearing.

“We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, saw the men abandoning the car in Buckstone Crescent or who has any information about who may have been involved.”

Anyone with information should contact DC 908 Thimm at Elland Road via 101 or call charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
