Ripon man critically injured in A1 collision

A 25-year-old Ripon man is in a critical condition in hospital after suffering head injuries in a collision on the A1 motorway in North Yorkshire.

The car, a silver BMW 320, left the carriageway to its left hand side and collided with fencing, one mile north of Junction 46 for Wetherby, near Kirk Deighton.

Police were called to the scene at 10.50pm yesterday and the driver was taken to Leeds General Infirmary. A police spokesman described his condition as “critical but stable” this morning.

The section of road where the collision happened was closed for five hours while police carried out their investigations.
