Revealed: Top ten most popular daily random acts of kindness made by Leeds folk

A new report has revealed people from Leeds are some of the kindest people in the UK.

At least once a day, 48% of Leeds residents will perform an act of kindness which is well above the national average of 19%.

To celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day, which is taking place tomorrow (February 17), Travelodge surveyed 2,000 adults to gain their views on the subject.

The research revealed that nearly half of British adults (45%) wish that more people showed kindness in everyday life.

Over half of Britons think, the general public is just too busy to stop and help others. Whilst 39% of adults stated that they are scared of showing an act of kindness to a stranger, in case it puts them in danger. However, 21% of Britons fear rejection from the other person if they showed an act of kindness. Whereas 28% of respondents surveyed think the young generation do not understand the value of a random act of kindness.

Fifty seven per cent of adults reported that they were shocked when a stranger showed them an act of kindness in everyday life.

Detailed below are the top ten most popular daily random acts of kindness made by people from Leeds:

1. Holding a door open for someone

2. Smiling at a stranger

3. Letting someone go ahead in the supermarket queue

4. Holding the lift for someone

5. Giving someone the right of way on the road

6. Giving someone a compliment

7. Giving someone your seat on public transport

8. Helping someone by carrying their case up the stairs

9. Giving another motorist your valid parking ticket

10. Taking someone’s shopping trolley back to the store from the car park for them

In contrast, our most unkind people can be found in: Bristol, Southampton, Swansea, Plymouth and Portsmouth.
