Retro picture is people's choice

The picture, which was captured by Jodie Beardmore, was one of the public’s top choices to feature in

Leeds City Museum’s Changing Faces of Leeds exhibition.

Her photograph was chosen by the public who cast their votes on social media in a special people’s choice category in the contest.

Among those commenting on Jodie’s photograph when it was posted on the Leeds Museums and Galleries’ Facebook page were Carole Russell, who said: “It’s very glamorous and retro. Love it!”

Chris Carsley said the image was “great.”

And Geoff Lewis added: “Nice shot, great capture, nice toning.”

Having won the support of the voters, Jodie’s picture is now on display alongside a selection of images from across Leeds.

Thousands of people have already visited the museum for the Changing Faces of Leeds exhibition, which features a unique collection of images spanning hundreds of years of the city’s history.

The exhibition, which runs until June 5, includes modern mobile selfies and portraits displayed alongside historic photographs from the museums and galleries’ collection.

Councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council, said: “This exhibition is a powerful statement about our heritage, our history, and the diverse, dynamic and booming city that Leeds has grown into thanks to the people who have called it home both in the past and today.”

More than 500 photographers entered the public competition, with the museum team choosing the final display. The exhibition has also featured workshops and events.
