The church was derelict for over 13 years until a refurbishment by local church group Gateway.

Since then, the group has held live music gigs on the church premises for the past 18 months featuring a range of local artists.

Now, following the success of those gigs, a full day of musical entertainment has been organised to take place on Saturday, October 1.

Live at St Mark’s Festival will run from noon until 11pm.

The grassroots festival will not only showcase the stunning renovated venue space, but will also support the city’s vibrant live music scene.

The festival will showcase some of the city’s most talented new bands and artists on both the main stage and the upper room.

Pippa Lloyd, a member of Gateway Church and project manager for the event, said: “The idea behind Live at St Mark’s Festival is to showcase talented, newly-emerging musicians and bands from across Leeds and beyond, and to encourage music fans to visit the beautifully renovated St Mark’s Church venue.

“We want to open our doors to everyone and to show that Christianity isn’t boring, irrelevant, or just for old people - We’re all pretty normal, enjoy good music and like to have a good time.”

Entry to the event is priced at £10 in advance or £12.50 on the day.
