The Founders of Leeds Baby Bank are celebrating after their first-ever ball was a 'resounding success' - after initial fears the event would leave them out of pocket.

Last week the YEP issued a last-ditch plea to potential party-goers after the new charity - which helps set struggling families up with vital equipment and food - experienced disappointing ticket sales.

Despite only a handful more tickets being sold, generous fundraisers on the night helped the charity make an impressive profit of £1,500.

Founder Lynsey Jayes said: “It was amazing, the people that came were so generous! After we did the presentation we had people come and offer us all sorts of things to help, including £1,000, a box at Leeds United and darts tickets.

We auctioned lots of fabulous prizes and ended up raising around £1500 after paying the overheads.

“It was a resounding success.

“Our original band informed us there had been a problem with the booking two weeks before, to add more stress, but a local swing duo, Swing Thing Duo, stepped in and they went down a treat, everyone loved the music.

“Also a letter had been sent to the Queens Hotel from a lady in Yeadon who was too sick to attend but had heard about it online and gave a donation for £30. She also said we would be in her prayers that morning, hoping that the event goes smoothly. It was incredibly lovely and emotional to get that letter, what a wonderful lady.”
