Excitement is ramping up at a south Leeds skate park which has undergone a major refit after being given a funding boost.

The Works’ upgraded ramps and facilities at its Hunslet skate park were officially opened on Friday by Lord Mayor of Leeds, Coun Jane Dowson.

The part received £40,000 worth of funding from Biffa, as well as a contribution from the Leeds Community Foundation.

It comes after it was announced this year that skateboarding will be recognised as an Olympic sport for the first time at Tokyo in 2020.

The Works, a social enterprise, works closely with schools, youth groups and extended services with the aim of helping to get children back into exercise whilst having fun through learning. It has launched a new project - 2020 Aspirations - aiming to inspire more youngsters to take part in sport.
