Raid on Leeds student party house after string of complaints
Nuisance neighbours in a Leeds suburb have been stripped of their sound equipment after ignoring a string of warnings about noise.
Leeds Anti-Social Behaviour Team (LASBT) and police raided the six bedroom house on Richmond Mount in Headingley after getting a court warrant.
It followed repeated complaints about loud music and parties from people living nearby,
Items seized included two televisions, a haul of computer gaming equipment and four sets of speakers.
The owners can apply to obtain the goods back after a 28 day period, but must pay costs. Further noise nuisance complaints could leave to a criminal prosecution.
Councillor Mark Dobson, Leeds City Council’s executive board member with responsibility for Safer Leeds said: “Noise nuisance is a real blight in our communities, and we will not hesitate to use all the powers at our disposal to put a stop to it immediately.
“Unfortunately the residents at this particular property did not listen to our warnings to keep the noise down to an appropriate level, which is why a decision was taken to obtain a warrant of entry through the courts and seize noise equipment such as televisions, game consoles and speakers at the property.
“I hope this action by LASBT will serve as a warning to any other individual participating in noise nuisance that it will not be ignored and they will face tough consequences if they continue with this type of behaviour.
“If you, a friend or a member of your family are suffering from noise nuisance, please contact us as soon as possible.”
Superintendent Sam Millar, who heads Safer Leeds, added: “Unreasonable and persistent noise is a form of anti-social behaviour that can have a really detrimental effect on people’s daily lives.
“The behaviour linked to this address was completely unacceptable and continued despite a number of previous interventions by the police and council.”
Anyone suffering from excessive and/or intrusive noise problems can get in touch with LASBT via 0113 222 4402 or out of hours on 0113 3950143 (between 6pm and 3.30am).
