Radio Aire duo's B&M trolley dash nets Christmas gifts for disadvantaged Leeds children

The duo were invited to B&M’s store in Armley for the trolley dash in aid of Radio Aire’s Cash for Kids Mission Christmas appeal.

The annual Yorkshire Evening Post-backed appeal aims to ensure every disadvantaged child in West Yorkshire has a gift to open on December 25.

Caroline and Ant had 30 seconds to grab as many gifts off the shelves as possible.

The pair, who were helped by a team from Cash for Kids, ended the dash with shopping trolleys piled high with a dizzying array of gifts for children of all ages.

Caroline said: “We had such a blast. As a kid I used to always want to be a contestant on Supermarket Sweep so doing this was incredible.

“There was a bit of rivalry between Ant and I as to who would be able to grab the most presents.

“But really the important thing was getting as many gifts as possible to help as many children across Leeds and West Yorkshire.

“It’s heartbreaking to think that more than 20,000 children are likely to wake up with nothing unless we all help out.”

Every B&M store in West Yorkshire is a drop off point so you can pop along and buy a gift and drop it off in their special Mission Christmas trolley up to December 17.

Cash for Kids are expecting a record breaking number of applications and need help to ensure they can meet their pledge of helping every single child.

Cash for Kids charity manager Lisa Sullivan said this year’s Radio Aire Mission Christmas appeal is “desperately short” of gifts.

She said: “We currently have 20,962 local disadvantaged children and we have only been able to help 2,579 children so we need even more help than ever before. If you can afford to, please buy an extra gift and drop it off at one of our many drop off points, including B&M, which can be found at www.radioaire.co.uk/mission or you can text AIRE to 70808 to donate £5. Every single gift no matter how small or large will really help us.”
