Leeds City Council has approved radical proposals for the reconstruction of 17 Wellington Street and 47 Aire Street into apartments and retail premises.

The building owners, Hallborough Properties Limited, has received consent for the construction of 26 apartments and a 9,000 sq ft restaurant/bar and coffee shop offer on the ground and lower ground floors.

The scheme is located close to Leeds City Station and at the gateway to the continuing regeneration of the Leeds West End. The ornate frontage of 17 Wellington Street and the gable walls of the Grade II Listed building will be retained, but the majority of the rear extension to Aire Street will be demolished and replaced with a new six-storey building.
